Soren Kierkegaard once said that we have to “seek the one thing.” Find our purpose, and stick with it. Today’s text shows Jesus in the middle of his journey from Galilee to Jerusalem, and he knows his purpose is in that Holy City. Jesus shows two different sides of this journey – calling his enemy a “fox” and lamenting over the coming destruction of Jerusalem – but he never deviates from his purpose. Can we, too, find our purpose – our “one thing” (what is our “one thing”?) and can we orient our lives around it?
