You throw a rock into the water and no matter its size, ripples go out from where it hits. It’s a simple act but there is something so satisfying about it. Our text today will invite us to see where, or who, the ripples of our actions reach and what we can expect in return.

One moment Jesus is speaking about how difficult it is to be a faithful follower and the next he is inviting people to come to him for his burden is light and he will give them rest. Well, which is it? Should we be inviting people to church so they can have their burdens lifted or should we be warning them that being part of a community of faith is challenging and even demanding?

I’m not sure we could have this hammered home any more than it has been already, but Jesus gives us yet another call to go out into the world. We’ve been forgiven - while we were still sinners we’ve been forgiven- so now we go out to do the same. Easy right? Ha. Today, we’ll see why we need to hear this as often as Jesus keeps saying it.

Relationships are a huge part of our faith journey. Is there a specific individual that comes to mind when you think about who has shaped your faith? Contact them to thank them for this blessing. Or, pray that God would give you an opportunity to share faith with someone. You may also need to pray for the courage to actually do it too!

Sometimes it’s hard to stay strong in the face of difficult things, and even harder when those things are hard to understand. Today the disciples say goodbye to Jesus, again. And he’s got some things to say before he goes… this time, they listen.

Naming God (Chad Brekke 5/21/17)

I suppose the life of faith would be easier if we could decide what kind of god we follow. I would choose a god that would allow me to focus on my own interests. Worship would be held up north on the lake except for festival Sundays which would be held on the golf course. Offering would not be collected at either of those services. Paul ran into this kind of religion in Athens. What he says about it caused some to laugh at him while others were never the same again.

Glory Days (Chad Brekke 5/7/17)

It is not uncommon to be nostalgic for days gone by. This is often especially true when it comes to the church. Change is often met with resistance if not disappointment or even anger. What if our glory days were not in our past or even in our future? What if we are living in the glory days right now?
Scripture: Acts 2:42-47; Psalm 23; John 10:1-10
Song: "White Flag" written by C. Tomlin, J. Ingram, et al; performed by the Prince of Peace worship band
